When I heard there was a Sophia Webster afternoon tea launching at Harrods, I had to go. Webster has long been a favourite designer of mine, and I’m determined to purchase a pair of her Chiara shoes one day. A girl can dream, right? So an afternoon tea seemed the perfect way to get my shoe fix without breaking the bank and enjoy a little bit of Sophia Webster luxury – and what better place to do it than Harrods?
The tea had a social butterfly theme, which worked perfectly with Sophia’s creative and iconic style. Upon entering the elegant Georgian Restaurant on the fourth floor, which was lined with shoes in true Sophia Webster style, we were greeted by a helpful waiter who led us to our table. Two deep purple velvet armchairs awaited us, and the table was aptly set up with beautiful Wedgwood crockery. It almost felt like something from a movie – there was not a spoon out of place, and the chairs were enormous.
I was so excited to try the desserts, which have been crafted by the chefs at Harrods with Sophia Webster’s creative input, and was imagining something colourful and reflective of her creative shoes. It didn’t disappoint. Desserts such as an iced ‘Chiara’ sandal gingerbread biscuit and a passion-fruit and white chocolate Sophia Webster shoe box stood out, and the pairings and detail of each dessert had clearly been meticulously thought out. I imagine Sophia Webster to be somewhat of a perfectionist, as all her shoes are incredibly unique with a practical and creative purpose behind each one. A dark chocolate and mint sponge cake complete with beautiful butterfly topper and two fruity flavoured macaroons were another two of the desserts, and all were modelled on Sophia Webster’s SS17 collection.
To celebrate the Social Butterfly afternoon tea, Sophia Webster has also designed an exclusive Evangeline Sandal for Harrods in pink degrade glitter detail, an entirely new technique introduced as part of their #SS17 collection.
